Dental Implants

Dental Implants

Dental implants are designed to replace the roots of a tooth and to properly support a new artificial replacement tooth that will be mounted surgically to the jaw.  At Diamond Dental Centre, this procedure is recommended as an option instead of a bridge, denture or partial denture. Dental implants are considered an excellent procedure for most patients.

Dental implants offer the patient a natural and comfortable feel. They look remarkably similar to the rest of the teeth and it’s practically impossible for anyone to detect a difference. Clearly, the aesthetic benefits of an implant are important, but there are also other benefits. Dental implants support the structure of the jawbone when a natural tooth is lost. The implant will also help to balance what dentists refer to as “bite forces” – the natural working function of existing teeth.

Technically, a dental implant is a surgically imbedded post inserted into the jaw; it is designed to perform like the root of an original tooth. In a step-by-step procedure, the final implant will anchor an incoming replacement tooth. At Diamond Dental Centre, Dr. Daniel Diamond performs dental implants on patients whose gums are in general good health and where bone mass is sufficient for a successful procedure. The procedure is effective and often painless.

With regular visits to the dentist, it’s easy to diagnose the need for an implant and to establish a course of action early on. Early diagnosis can help to prevent the need for more serious surgery. The process includes placement of a titanium screw in the bone where the missing tooth was. Although this sounds uncomfortable, it is generally very well-tolerated. The gums  quickly heal over or around the implant. The implant is allowed to heal inside the bone for several months before it is ready to have the crown placed on it.

Once the gum is healed and healthy, the dentist will attach an abutment to the dental implant. The abutment is designed to connect the post to the incoming replacement tooth. The customized artificial tooth is then fastened to the post, at which time the procedure is complete. When finished, the patient’s mouth and teeth will have a natural look and feel. For Dr. Daniel Diamond, skill and precision are key to the procedure; patient health is always the foremost priority.
